Artists Bio: Betty L Beer is a retired attorney who practiced in Peoria and Aledo, Illinois before moving to Brookings, SD, 21 years ago.
Her second career is that of a portrait painter. She has just finished a five-year project of painting 100 oil portraits, which is the subject of a book entitled FACES OF BROOKINGS. She has been juried four times into the SD Governor’s Show and had an exhibit at the South Dakota Art Museum called “Savoring”, which was an ekphrastic collaboration with 5 poets. She mounted two portrait exhibits called “New Pioneers”, one at the Brookings Arts Council and the other at the Dacotah Prairie Museum.
Betty participated several times in the P3 exhibition at the Visual Arts Center of the Washington Pavilion. Her abstract work entitled “Jazz Quintet for My Ancestors”, with attendant poems by Professor Marianne Zarzana, hangs in the library of Northern Minnesota University at Marshall, Mn.
She was also commissioned by the Pheasant Restaurant to provide an eighteen-person portrait of their employees at work.
